RIS Glenn Gamble Memorial Classic 2005-2006

Ruamrudee International School recently organized its annual golf tournament on Sunday, October 9, 2005, at the Pine Golf and Lodge located at Nongjok. We are pleased to announce that a grand total of 53,370 baht was raised and will be used towards lowering the costs of Model United Nations students attending their two international conferences this school year, The Hague International Model United Nations-Singapore from November 9-13, 2005 and the Beijing International Model United Nations from March 15-21, 2006. The objectives of the students attending these conferences are to seek, through discussion, negotiation and debate, solutions to the various problems of the world: e.g. questions of human rights, protection of the environment, economic development, disarmament, the problems of youth and of refugees, as well as the more critical issues of war and peace.

This golf tournament is held annually in honor of Mr. Glenn Gamble, the founder of the MUN here at RIS. The tournament was open to students, teachers, parents, alumni of RIS and their friends. Representatives from BPS, ISB, NIST and Shrewsbury also participated in our friendly tournament. The 49 participants played the tournament in teams of four according to the rules of a ‘Four-Ball’ Texas Scramble. Despite the occasional sprinkling of rain, everyone managed to have a pleasant time and enjoyed the dinner and awards ceremony at the end of the evening.

Trophies were awarded to first, second, and third place team winners. Several participants admitted they joined the tournament despite their lack of golfing skills, and trophies were also awarded to the team with the highest score. They played for the fun and the camaraderie and received a great round of applause from everyone. There were also various individual prizes such as Men’s and Ladies’ Nearest to the Pin, won by Mr. Walter Koertge (RIS) and Ms. Suzie Cary (RIS) and Men’s and Ladies’ Longest Drive, won by Mr. Jamin Bookhammer (ISB) and Mrs. Yun Hi Sun (RIS parent).
